Preservation

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Matthew 5:13 (KJV) Jesus calls us the salt of the earth. Wow. Awesome! We add taste, flavour, healing and preservation to the earth. In His sermon on the mount, Jesus called us salt meaning that the common people he was addressing – fishermen, shepherds, laborers (men like you and I) – were worthy and virtuous. He was alluding, not to the tang of salt, but to its value. Mama’s cooking will never taste like it used to without that pinch of pure, unadulterated salt. Just the little salt changes everything. Just like the light that we are can become darkness as we saw in some teachings ago, as the salt we could also lose our saltiness therefore we must treasure who we are and be on guard against toxins and impurities. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another. Mark 9:50 (KJV) Have salt in yourselves! How I love that. In other words, we are not just salt, we must be so saturated that it oozes out into our world. Salt is used in the Holy Scriptures in diverse ways and is symbolic of permanence, loyalty, durability, fidelity, usefulness, value, and purification. Like all sacrifices in the Mosaic law, we must offer ourselves salted on the altar of sacrifice to the Lord. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1 (KJV) When we are salted, our sanctification glorifies God. Our speech when salted brings life and healing to our hearts. Let your speech at all times be gracious (pleasant and winsome), seasoned [as it were] with salt, [so that you may never be at a loss] to know how you ought to answer anyone [who puts a question to you]. Colossians 4:6 (Amp) As followers of Christ, we must ensure that our lives, speech and action reflect the salt that we are and not just be blessed but be a huge blessing. In 2 Kings 2, the Prophet Elisha was told of a water which was poisonous and unfit for human consumption and even farming. He took a new bowl with salt in it and prophetically healed the water and the land. Oh, the great power of salt! Beloved, you are salt – that’s who you are. Jesus commanded that we should all go in His name; heal the sick, cleanse the lepers and even raise the dead. Why? Because He had made us the salt of the earth. Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned? Luke 14:34 (KJV) Don’t let people’s attitude, actions or inactions change who you are. You are a preserver, healer and flavour of the earth. Jesus is Lord!
