This is what we were created for originally. It is also why Jesus redeemed us – to love and worship the Almighty God.
The Israelites’ deliverance from the pangs of slavery in Egypt was geared towards their coming to the place of service of the Father.
And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. Exodus 3:12
Our redemption in Christ likewise have one goal: to bring us to the palace of worship.
That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear, Luke 1:74 (KJV)
But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter. Romans 7:6 (KJV)
Correctly put, we were redeemed for God’s pleasure. We were saved to serve our Saviour. That’s all He demands of us.
In the Old Testament, God spelt out His desire:
Deuteronomy 6:4-5 (KJV) Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Jesus in establishing the New Testament, instructed concerning which was the great commandment.
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. Matthew 22:37-38 (KJV)
With all that the Father has done in Christ Jesus to manifest His grace, mercy and love towards us it is only fitting that we give it back by sincerely loving and serving Him – Heart, Soul, Might and Mind.
We need to quit living for ourselves but for God and His glory.
Shalom!
